Londres Accueil is a French voluntary association that offers many programs and helps facilitate the integration of its members in London. They provide a wide range of activities, including cultural tours. When I participate in one of them, I am happy to share my words (and pictures) to witness the experience and feed the association’s social networks.

The fresh but radiant weather of that day was ideal for discovering the rich and sulphurous history of this unknown area. Angel is part of the district of Islington in London. During this visit, we crossed paths with many national celebrities. Some were as good as angels, and some were more on the devil’s side: Thomas Paine, Joseph Grimaldi, Boris Johnson, Joe Orton, Caroline Chisholm, Charlie Chaplin and more. We also stopped along the Regent’s canal, which was the perfect spot for our Instagram pics! […]

This visit, conducted by our guide Muriel with brisk and positive energy, was as refreshing as the crisp air of the day! That day we crossed paths with old fields in the heart of the London theatrical scene - convents, churches, and sulphurous places of forbidden pleasures - aristocrats and vendors dealing at the famous Covent Garden market - performances of the Royal Opera or the Royal Drury Lane, as well as publications from the licentious best-seller “The Covent Garden Ladies” - St Martin-in-the-fields and St Giles-in-the-fields churches (special mention for the beautiful stained-glass window from Shirazeh Houshiary at St Martin-in-the-fields!) etc. Behind-the-scenes stories and a thousand and one facets of the turbulent and often hilarious history of Covent Garden have no more secrets for us!

On this freezing day in January, we explored the very chic neighbourhood of the St James area, joyfully guided by Muriel. It was a beautiful and rich dive into Georgian London (1714-1830), concluded with a private visit to Spencer House! Starting from St James’s Park, we first discovered the prestigious world of the secret gentlemen’s clubs around Park Place and Pall Mall, for instance, the White’s Club, where Prince Charles had his bachelor party… We also met the elegant Beau Brummel (1778-1840), known as the first English dandy who revolutionized men’s fashion […] Eventually, we discovered the splendid Spencer House, famous for being the most magnificent aristocratic house in London in the eighteenth century.
